What is DCM?

Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a disease of the heart muscle. It specifically affects the heart’s pumping chamber.

In a heart with DCM, the muscle walls dilate (expand) and become abnormally thin and weak. This stretching prevents the heart from contracting effectively, making it difficult to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs.
